W. Virginia Civil War FOR LIBERTY service medal
Died a PoW

Type II medal as awarded to the next of kin of West Virginia soldiers who died non-battle direct in service of the state.
An excellent condition example rim named to
The 2nd Reg. W. VA Inf. was formed in 1861 and later became the 5th W.VA Cavalry.  It was with the 5th Cavalry that Private Webster was serving when he was captured and died in transit March 1864.

Company "H" organized at Ironton, Ohio, and mustered in at Wheeling, W. VA June 1861.
5th Regiment W. VA Cavalry organized from 2nd Regt. W. VA Mounted Infantry Jan. 1864
Martinsburg, W. Va., to March, 1864. 3rd Brigade, 4th Division to April, 1864.
Engaged at Patterson's Creek April 1864 then Charleston 27-30.
