8th AAF Pilot’s A2 Group
James E. Newsome earned his wings in Feb. 1944. Piloting a B17, his crew arrived in England in Oct. 1944 assigned to the 486th Bomb Group, 834th Bomb Sqdn of the 8th AAF.
He piloted the B17 “FLAK SACK” in 35 missions over Germany, was promoted to Captain and discharged at the war’s end having earned the DFC and the Air Medal with two OLC’s.
His group, all original as worn and in excellent condition includes has complete four pocket officer’s blouse with wings, ribbons, English made 8th AAF patch and is named inside. Included is his Roughwear A2 leather flight jacket with the usual interior collar wear but otherwise excellent and has J.E. NEWSOME name tag.  His AAF crusher (yes, it’s a crusher) is excellent and a name card was found under the sweatband.
There is a great looking large white silk scarf with AAF logo. Misc. other items include over 20 original photo’s many in which he is wearing the blouse and A2. There are numerous souvenir paper items relating to his time in England and research.
