Pre-WWI Long German 1898 Bayonet
Regimentally marked "Seitengewehr 98 neuer Art" (Bayonet ‘98 new Pattern). Regimental markings are difficult to read, possibly "B1H 104.3" are on the guard. Knightshead maker mark on the ricasso.
I imagine when the vet put this in his footlocker in 1918 it was mint condition. The blade is still excellent plus and bright, the grips undamaged, the leather scabbard clean without splits or bulges.
The metal fittings around the grip and scabbard fittings are pitted and aged. Will clean up some but will still show age.
