Wartime 21st New Jersey AoP Presentation Medal

A well struck silver medal with the obverse reading "Liberty and Prosperity", the reverse edge reads "Co. C 21st Regt. N.J.S. Vols Army of the Potomac, 1862-3", and In the center "Presented to John Burke By the Citizens of Bergen, Bayonne and Greenville". The medal was struck without the Company letter or name. The Company letter " C" has been struck into it and name neatly engraved. Awarded WARTIME to the men of the 21st NJ, not a postwar veteran's service medal.
John Burke enlisted on 8/28/1862 as a Private in "C" Co. NJ 21st Infantry and Mustered Out on 6/19/1863 having served the duration if the 21st's service time. He is probably the same John Burke who served in the 11th Regiment NJ Veteran Volunteer Corps.
The 21st Regiment, New Jersey Infantry organized at Trenton, NJ, and mustered in September 15, 1862. It left for Washington, D. C., September 16, 1862, then to Frederick, Md., September 18, and joined the Army of the Potomac on the battlefield of Antietam, Maryland. They attached to 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 6th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, until Mustered out at Trenton, NJ June 19, 1863.
The unit served Guard duty at Hagerstown, MD at Dam No. 5 till October 29 then to Falmouth, VA, October 29-November 19. Battle of Fredericksburg December 11-15 initially in support of Weirs' Maryland Battery. "Mud March" January 20-24. Chancellorsville Campaign April 27-May 6. Operations at Franklin's Crossing April 29-May 2. Battle of Maryes Heights, Fredericksburg, May 3. Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 20 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded.
