Excellent condition Massachusetts Minuteman Medal given to veterans who answered Lincoln’s First Call for troops.
Correct rim impressed naming to
James R. Downer, Cpl., Co. F., 8th Mass. Vol. Inf.
Downer enlisted 4/15/1861 in the 8th Mass. Volunteer Infantry. He served his three months and reenlisted in “Read’s Company” of the Third Mass. Cavalry. He remained with them until discharged as a Sergeant on 1/2/1865.
The 3rd Cavalry was known as Mounted Rangers and their service ranged from Louisiana to Virginia.
