British Crimea Service Medal 12th Lancers
Some wear to edge and polishing but overall very nice. Period original engraved to 1107 Pte William Evans, 12th (Royal) Lancers.
Thank you Roy for the excellent research!
Evans is also entitled to South Africa 1853, Crimea, Turkish Crimea, and LSGC (served 1849-53) and also served in India during the Mutiny, but no medal awarded, likely at Depot so not “in the field”. His papers show medal crossed thru and he’s not on the roll.
Medal on the roll its noted “H&R” next to it, meaning was likely at the Chatham depot and got an engraved medal issued there. Some soldiers receive engraved medals, most of them were impressed. H&R is Hunt and Roskell was the London medals/jewellers who had the contract to engrave medals where/when needed.
