 Attributed Posthumous Wake Island group
As awarded to a Marine Aircrewman killed in action on Dec. 7, 1941.
The story of the sacrifice of the Wake Island defenders is incredible! I was proud to offer this group for sale several months ago and just took back as down payment on another group.
Gifford L. Haley lost his life on 8 December 1941 as a Marine airman serving in the defense of Wake Island. He was an Aircrew Staff Sgt. in VMSB231, MAG21, 2nd MAW. Included are original photo’s, his USMC Expeditionary medal MNo.9572 with as issued WAKE ISLAND bar and rarer than the medal, his FDR death accolade noting loss on Wake Island. The WAKE clasp is 100% correct ‘drooping E’ first issue, the Expeditionary medal numbers were not recorded but it is in the correct, known, number range.
