The 4 bar USS Indiana Sampson is a Phase 3 medal correctly impressed
ASS’T. ENGR. ROSCOE CHARLES MOODY
It is preceded on the period mounted bar by his three piece WWI production Navy Cross, West Indies #210, Philippine #124, Mexican #440, and his WW1 Victory medal with Atlantic Fleet clasp.
Then Captain Moody earned his Navy Cross while Commanding the U.S.S. Maine in World War 1. His citation reads:
Navy Cross awarded to Captain Roscoe C. Moody, U.S.N. for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility as Head of the Department of Mathematics at the U. S. Naval Academy, and as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Maine in the Atlantic Fleet.
All excellent and unquestionably original and correct. Some expected ribbon war but solid. Includes an excellent research file that includes confirmation of the campaign medal numbers.
