Massachusetts Minuteman Medal
Authorized in 1902 by the state of Massachusetts, approximately 4,000 were struck by the US Mint for award to Massachusetts veterans who had responded to Lincoln's "first call" in April of 1861. They are impressed named in the rim to include unit and rank. These men enlisted for 3 month terms of service as it was believed that the rebellion would come to a quick conclusion.
