CBI AAF Captain's A2 Leather Flight Jacket
A local antique shop find with nametag reading
I have no research or history on the vet.
Leather is supple, strong and undamaged. Talon zipper works fine. Waist band is solid and original. The cuffs have been tailor replaced, I'm sure wartime done. The lining is complete and undamaged though sweat stained. The woven manufacturers label is in the neck but too worn to read clearly. Size I would estimate as a U.S. 38L.
Insignia includes a U.S. Made 14th AAF patch on one shoulder and a CBI made multipiece leather patch on the other. A great combination construction blood chit is seen on the back. A large one piece painted leather 14th AAF "Flying Tiger" patch rests on the right breast and his imprinted leather name tag is on the left breast. A second name tag was found in the pocket and is included.
It is worth noting that the blood chit and shoulder patches are seen in one thread style, not sewn thru the lining and show wear consistent with the jacket having been worn. The large 14th AAF chest patch and his name tag are machine seen in a different stitch and sewn thru the lining. They are cleaner and the name tag style is more consistent with late war insignia. I'm sure these are wartime and original but he likely upgraded his name tag and decided to add the Flying Tiger squadron patch at the same time.
